Introducing here are the highlights of NINNA-JI Temple, designated as a World Heritage Site.
NINNA-JI Temple, closely related to the Imperial Family, was founded by Emperor Uda during the Japanese classical Heian period in 888. It is said that they named the temple NINNA-JI because the name of that era was "NINNA". This temple was used for the Imperial Family residence that it was also called "Omuro Gosho (the Imperial Palace in Omuro)"
In the NINNA-JI Temple precincts which experienced the long history since the Japanese classical period, there are many important cultural properties such as Japanese National Treasure "Kondo (golden pavilion)", "Niomon (two kings' gate)", and "Gojunoto (five story pagoda)".
