Starbucks has opened numerous coffee stores in Kyoto city. Among them there are two concept stores where "unusual Starbucks experiences are possible".

This edition features one of the two concept stores, which is located next to "Chohoji Rokkakudo" temple surrounded by modern buildings and apartments in the center of Kyoto city, "Starbucks Coffee store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku", where visitors can spend relaxing coffee time looking at "Chohoji Rokkakudo".

"Chohoji Rokkakudo" is a historical temple which is believed to be built by Shotokutaishi (Prince Shotoku). "Starbucks Coffee store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku" stands next to the temple, and from inside the store unimaginable views can be seen and visitors will be fascinated by its authentic Kyoto scenery which can not be expected from outside.

Starbucks Coffee's "Concept Store". I guess many people have heard this "concept store" before.

What is Concept Store?

As "concept store" describes literally, it means selected stores which have characteristic elements of local history and culture.

Currently there are only 13 stores in Japan which are entitled as Starbucks Coffee Concept Store. In Kyoto there are 2 of them, selected because of the carefully screened building and based on a certain concept.

In Summer Kawadoko (floor laid down to river) appears along Kamo river in "Starbucks Coffee store in Kyoto Sanjo Ohashi"and "Starbucks Coffee store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku" standing next to Kyoto taste temple "Chohoji Rokkakudo", these are the two concept stores.

In addition, if we count stores in Kansai area, there is one more in Kobe"Starbucks store in Kobe Kitano Ijinkan", then there are three stores!

Entrance of the store looks like an ordinary office building, nothing particular.

Usually many Starbucks Concept Shops are located in outstanding unique buildings, so it's easy to understand why the shop represents the Concept from the appearance. But this "Starbucks Coffee store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku" does not look special and from outside many people may well doubt if it's really a Concept Shop.

But once you enter the shop, you may find a view that you can see only here in "Starbucks store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku"

This is just what we would expect of "Starbucks"!

Just next to the store a main hall of "Rokkakudo" temple stands. The store has high ceiling and glass walls, so people can sit in sofa, looking at Rokkakudo as much as they want and spend coffee time here.

These unique sceneries attract local Kyoto people as well as tourists, and now it's hard to find a vacant sofa seat which is especially favorable. :)

Those, who came on just time, can sit on the special seat and enjoy coffee time. When you visit, please check it out.

Please note that early morning after opening the store or late hour before closing are comparatively less crowded, and you may have a chance.

In addition, beautiful scenery is not only Spring! Winter in Kyoto is heavily cold, and it snows sometimes in the city. If you visit "Starbucks store in Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku" on snowing day, you can see the view covered with snow. If you could see it, you must be very lucky because this scenery is really rare.

About "Chohoji Rokkakudo"

"Chohoji Rokkakudo" is believed to be built by famous Prince Shotoku in old time. As the shape of the main hall is hexagon, it's called "Rokkakudo (six sided)" according to a legend. "Rokkakudo" is located in very center of Kyoto city. If you look around from "Chohoji Rokkakudo", you see office and tenant buildings jostling, unusual mixture of historical and contemporary sceneries. If you have time. please visit "Chohoji Rokkakudo", too.

If you enter the store you will be fascinated with the scenery embraced with Kyoto taste. That's the reason why this is a concept store, and because of this it is crowded on weekends and holidays.We recommend visiting in morning or night time which are less crowded and taking your sofa seat next to the glass walls. The view from the seat is superb and you may feel that the time pass slowly as if the time stopped.
