1,300 year-history! World Heritage Site "Kofuku-ji". Five-Storey Pagoda and a lot of interesting historical properties!

"Kofuku-ji" has been built 1,300 years ago and which has lots of national treasures representing ancient Nara culture. You can see the famous collection of Butsuzo (Buddhist statue) including "Senju kannon" and "Ashura zo", also Five Storey Pagoda which are symbol of the history of Nara.

There is the semi-wild deer in Nara Park, Kofuku-ji is the nice place for a walk and study history. Kofuku-ji has many national treasures and important cultural properties but the premises is not huge so you can visit easily.

"Five-Storey Pagoda" is the best part of National Treasure!

"Five-Storey Pagoda" was originally built for the grave marker of tomb of Buddha. Until today, Five-Storey Pagoda had been burned down and rebuilt several times. It has 50 meters high and seen close up it is more powerful.
They are not colorful like another Five-Storey Pagoda in Shitenno-ji in Osaka, but there are lots of architectural features in many parts of Five-Storey Pagoda in Kofuku-ji. The more you look, the more attractive impression you may have about it.

Look at "Five-Storey Pagoda" from Sarusawa-ike! The eight most beautiful view in Nara!

Don't miss this place Sarusawai-ike to see the nice view of Five-Storey Pagoda. The scene of Five-Storey Pagoda reflected on the Sarusawa-ike is selected as the eight most beautiful view in Nara. In the evening with sunset or in the night with moon light, you can find another beauty of Five-Storey Pagoda.

In every summer, the Big festival of Nara Park "TOUKAE KAI" is held.
During this festival Nara Park is illuminated with lots of candles and give the fantastic and mysterious atmosphere in the whole park.

Lots of National treasures "Kokuho-kan"! Why people is attracted by "Ashurazo" and "Senju kannon"?

Every one must has seen "Ashurazo" and "Senju kannon" in the TV or in the book. In the "Kokuho-kan" you can see them with your own eyes. Before "Kokuho kan" was built, Jiki-do(Dining house for the priest) had have been here.

Butsuzo(Buddhist statues) is said that they have various expression on their face. Some times they look smiling and other time they look angry also another time they look sad, for example. They grip our heart.
Especially, there is a fun club of "Ashurazo". Please come and see their charm.

"Tokon-do(East golden temple)" is only one existing "Kon-do(Golden temple)"

Tofuku-ji had three Kon-fo before, but now only Tokon-do is existent. Tokon-do was burned down and rebuilt 6 times.

Off course many national treasures and important cultural properties are stored in here, for example, "Yakushi nyorai zo" and "Nikko・Gakko bosatsu ryuzo" as the important cultural properties , "Mokuzo monju bosatus zo", "Mokuzo yuimako jizo", "Mokuzo shitennou ryuzo" and "Mokuzo nishinsho ryuzo" as the national treasures.

We recommend to visit "Kokuho-kan" and "Tokon-do" together.
